Exactly what the title says. NOM NOM NOM!
That's right folks... sleep in! You get to turn your clocks back an hour on Sunday! From The Consumerist...
So...while not changing them back won't make you late for work, it is a good idea to just set them back. After all, sleep is good.
~Kyra
On the second Sunday in March, clocks are set ahead one hour at 2:00 a.m. local standard time, which becomes 3:00 a.m. local daylight time. On the first Sunday in November, clocks are set back one hour at 2:00 a.m. local daylight time, which becomes 1:00 a.m. local standard time.
So...while not changing them back won't make you late for work, it is a good idea to just set them back. After all, sleep is good.

Ever been in the middle of setting something up, and have it work, and not work, all at the same time? That accurately describes an install of MediaWiki I am working on at the moment.
I made the configuration file changes to use "/wiki/Page name", like Wikipedia does, but I need to restart Apache to get the directives to be read in. So accessing the root install directory kind of works, but doesn't, as the software tries to redirect to /wiki/Page...

One word: Want.
... DO NOT WANT.
Seriously, EA. If what I have read on The Consumerist is true, Spore was available for torrenting two days prior to the actual release date, supposedly Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) free. Why must you insist on punishing your customers who want to play legit?
I mean, SecuROM is a TSR program, and I should not be required to terminate/uninstall/modify any program I have installed (eg, Alcohol 120%) to be allowed to install your game. Likewise, I utterly REFUSE to buy a game where only three activations are allowed before I need to call up the game's developer to request an additional license. Why, you might ask? Okay...
My point is this. As it stands, I will not be buying Spore. I will not buy it even if EA goes the Nintendo Revolution route of producing peripherals and manufactures a USB device that is capable of sucking dick, regardless of how cool it would sound. However, EA, if you pull your heads out of your collective ass and remove all DRM from Spore, I will consider purchasing your game, and as you are a corporate machine, I know you like money.
And just out of insane curiosity, how much did it cost you to put DRM in Spore in the first place? I mean, paying the SecuROM license, creating/maintaining the activation scheme/software/servers, as well as paying the representatives for handling activations beyond the third couldn't have been cheap at all.
Tee Ell, Dee Arr; I will not be buying Spore until DRM is nuked from it, and wouldn't it have been more cost effective to not have DRM in the first place?

- I like to be able to install/uninstall as I please
- Mirroring the above reason, some games are hyooge and I want to keep my disk from shitting bricks when it becomes full.
- It's inconvenient as hell
- But most importantly, it shouldn't fucking matter.

SSL Certificates. Not working. Why?
Firefox is reporting "ssl_error_rx_record_too_long" on a website I am trying to set up with SSL. I have already generated the private key and the certificate, and added the (likely necessary) lines to the.conf file within the applicable apache directory, then called a 'sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart'.
Now, another website hosted on the same host has SSL fully working, since the web-interface of it uses SSL. However, I am not sure what I am doing wrong, if anything.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to resolve this? I am out of ideas on my end.
Lines added to.conf:

Haven't gotten them yet, but pretty soon I will be able to offload my pagefile onto a 4 GB PCI/SATA RAM based disk. Huzzah! It's almost like getting four extra gigs of RAM, just not having them as main system RAM... or something like that. I am kind of curious how much space I will get when 'formatting' it as either FAT32 or NTFS... it calls for an experiment.
Oh well, I will likely post an update when I get the RAM and the GC-RAMDISK.
On an unrelated note, Disturbed's new album, Indestructible, is quite nice! I wonder if Winamp logging 313 plays on Inside the Fire borders on obsession?

Soooo.... Verizon decides it likes to fuck with non-existant domains by redirecting me to a search page. Probably under the guise of being helpful. For example, the domain www.nonexisasdfasdfasdf.com does not exist (as of this posting). When I tried going there, I get redirected to <http://wwwwz.websearch.verizon.net/search?qo=www.nonexisasdfasdfasdf.com&rn=cc58ctxzozkvqav>, which of course, returns no hits.
However, I prefer the behavior that should occur, which is nothing being returned or searched for. Hell, Google is your friend, right?
Anyway... I am going to try setting the DNS server for the router to OpenDNS's and see if it fixes Verizon's fuckup.
As my sole complaint so far, I think they are a decent ISP.

Edit, 11:30 AM: Ah ha! Found the DNS server entry... if anything it was hidden better than a needle in a haystack. See, the Verizon router's (well, their router is the actual modem, and the interface to the coax) interface is a pain to use, in the sense that every time you want to go to the more technical side of the router you need to hit "yes" to make sure you want to proceed, as "Any changes made in this section may affect your Routers performance and configuration." It's a thorn in my side. I might be developing a reflex to just hit the enter key right as I click or see a confirmation like that.
Anyway... you would think, at least with the setup they have, that the custom DNS server entries would be under the "Advanced" section, but it's not. The "DNS Server" entry in there is just the DNS that the router maintains for the connected devices. The actual DNS server settings are in the "My Network" tab, then "Network Connections", and then you have to edit "Broadband Connection (Coax)" to actually see it...
Damn thing. I am growing to the point where I want to ask Verizon if flashing the router to another firmware is possible... or at least make it so it is not as crappily organized.

Parents are discussing switching to FiOS. Anyone have any comments as to which is better and why?
And do torrents work well on FiOS? I know I'll need to pull some Ubuntu ISOs for the new version, and I'd prefer running the torrent as not to hammer someone's poor server.
Additionally, is it possible to get Verizon to NOT cut the copper leading to the house, and if so, how? I have heard that they usually do so during the installation.
Many thanks!

"The Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it." --John Gilmore.
You people claim to be a religion, but you charge for membership. I thought religions were supposed to be free to participate in. Your 'church' may claim to be a non-profit organization, but in the words of your founder, L. Ron Hubbard: "'I'm going to invent a religion that's going to make me a fortune. I'm tired of writing for a penny a word.'", and "Make money. Make more money. Make others produce so as to make money . . . However you get them in or why, just do it." and "Make sure that lots of bodies move through the shop." I mean, think of it this way... A person genuinely wants to help another, and doesn't care about how, just that helps. The exchange of assistance usually would go without the transfer of money, for example, a teenager working at a soup kitchen. Yet you, decide to exploit those looking for answers in their life.
Next on the list, the "E-meter". Well, fuck, let's just determine how a person is doing in their life by making a resistance detection device! Your oh so wonderful meter is nothing more than something that displays the result (or some interpretation) of the following equation: R = V / I. In other words, the electrical resistance is equal to the voltage divided by the current (i.e., this is an ohmmeter). Pop quiz time, all you quack Scientologists! What is the name of the method used to determine the electrical resistance of the skin? If you said, the galvanic skin response, you are right! Did you know, that the GSR is one component of the polygraph test? If not, now you know, and knowing is half the battle (GI Joe!). In other words, your meter is nothing more than a rudimentary lie detector.
In the same vein, why did you need to become an eBay VeRO member? I mean, the rights to a piece of hardware belong to the person who owns it, so you really don't retain the right to dictate how it is used. In other words, if you believe you have the right to keep people from trading items they own, I have a really nice bridge I'd like to sell you...
Xenu... blimey, this part is gooood... I mean, space planes? Seriously.. umm... planes can't operate in space. But honestly, I can barely make heads or tails of this "Xenu", as it makes me laugh too much just trying to read about h(im|er)/it on Wikipedia. By the way, this is another example of how the CoS is for-profit, as "The Church has tried to keep Xenu confidential but critics say the story should be made public, given the high prices charged for OT III, part of Scientology's secret "Advanced Technology" doctrines taught only to members who have already contributed large amounts of money to the organization."
For those thinking about Scientology, take everything they say cum grano salis.
This has been Kyra, the somewhat-annoyed Ranting Kitsune, and that is what I have to say about this.
